Two Korean actors, Yoo Ah In and Lee Sun Kyun, are currently facing a significant problem, namely being involved in a drug-related case.
The involvement of Lee Sun Kyun and Yoo Ah In in this drug case has left the Korean film industry in shock and has caused various losses.
The Korean film industry, which has not fully recovered from the effects of the pandemic, is now under additional pressure due to the scandal involving Yoo Ah In and Lee Sun Kyun.

Before getting caught in the drug case, both actors had been confirmed to star in various projects, and some films were awaiting release.
Unfortunately, after their legal involvement, various projects and release plans have had to be postponed indefinitely.
The film “Escape: PROJECT SILENCE,” starring Lee Sun Kyun and with a budget of 20 billion won, scheduled for release this year, has been postponed indefinitely.
The film “Land of Happiness,” costing approximately 9 billion won, has also completed filming and is in post-production but is now halted.
Both films starring Lee Sun Kyun have been described by Korean media as uncertain and at risk of failure.
On the other hand, Yoo Ah In’s involvement in drug use has also had a significant impact on the Korean film industry.
Yoo Ah In, who was previously questioned by the police for suspected drug use in March of this year, was also scheduled to release films “The Victory” and “High Five.”
In addition to these two films, Yoo Ah In was supposed to release the new Netflix series “The Fool of the End.” Unfortunately, all of these projects have been postponed indefinitely, even though the total production cost of the three works is 65 billion won.
Therefore, the production costs of films starring Lee Sun Kyun and Yoo Ah In, but delayed in their release, amount to nearly 100 billion won, or more precisely, around 94 billion won.
This issue has received serious attention among Korean film industry officials.
Seeing the losses, including delayed releases, caused by both cases has made industry officials concerned about various drug-related rumors.
Investment/production company officials stated, “I feel nervous even when there are rumors related to drugs circulating,” and “I feel like throwing a bomb, praying that (the drug issue) does not explode in our country.”
Meanwhile, netizens have expressed various reactions to this issue, especially regarding the use of actors in the future.
These reactions are quite understandable, given the precedent set by such incidents. Netizens have also brought up the names of some actors who have been involved in similar cases in the past but were given a chance to return to the big screen or television, such as Ju Ji Hoon and Ha Jung Woo.
On the other hand, netizens generally agree that actors involved in drug-related cases should not be given the opportunity to return as they have in the past.

Here are some netizen comments:
“But who should be blamed? They (the industry) keep using drug addicts even when they clearly know, so new drug addicts keep emerging without warning.”
“Even so, the industry will come back and use them, won’t they?”
“Ju Ji Hoon and Ha Jung Woo lack self-reflection haha” “The biggest production cost is the appearance fee, but it’s just a waste of money, so it shouldn’t be used.”
“Stop using drug addicts; it will only lead to losses.”
“I don’t have much sympathy for people in that industry, especially directors and producers.”
“It feels so strange… When I see them, I think they really come from another world… They don’t seem to know that they’re negative.”
“Irrational people without a sense of responsibility,” and various other comments.
